“Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.” Romans 12:2 (ESV)
In this month's blog, I talked about the experience I had repelling down a mountain when I was in high school. If you haven’t read that story, it might be helpful to go back and read it for context.
Stretching is what sets us apart from others. The ability to be stretched and to show others
how we grow through that experience is what gives us credibility when we discipline those around us. Considering my story about repelling. Everybody in my cabin repelled that day. But I was the one that demonstrated what being stretched was about. What facing adversity and going through a trial could accomplish. It was what made me stand out amongst the other young men in our cabin. Because I was stretched, because they witnessed; I became their leader.
What sets you apart from those around you? How are you being stretched?
Romans 12:2 is a very interesting verse. Notice of the actions taking place inside of it. (do not be conformed) [Resist] with what this world wants you to be, Be transformed, renewal of your mind that you may be tested. These are things that can’t be done in a stationary passive position. You must be active! You must be doing them with intention. Otherwise, you will fail at doing them. To be stretched, you must be different than those who are settling for mediocrity. Those who are observing you will take notice.
