Did You Ever Learn to Drive a Manual Transmission Vehicle?

I was once teaching someone to drive a manual transmission car. We came up to an

intersection and had to stop for a red light. Then someone pulled up behind us. When the light turned green, my friend let out the clutch and the car died. The person behind gave some misguided encouragement. Yep, they began honking their car horn. Alright, so that really wasn’t encouragement - it was more like a kick in the pants. After a few failed attempts, and the continued horn honking, my friend got out and went back to other driver and said, “It’s a manual transmission, would you please go move my car, and I’ll sit back here and honk. Let’s see if that helps you.” There’s a time for a kick in the pants, but mostly we all need encouragement.
