Discipleship [Growth] Gaps (Part 2: The Assumption Gap)

The Assumption Gap - “I assume that I will [naturally be able to disciple]”

We believe that we will have a great inspirational movie speech at just the right moment to

give courage and inspire someone to overcome their obstacle. The problem is that movie scripts and speeches are well-planned and rehearsed to get everything right. And then after the fact they are edited to have the right background music, cuts to characters, and lighting. The SEALs have a saying, “Under pressure, you don't rise to the occasion, you sink to the level of your [preparation].”

When the time comes “to make a defense to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you” (1 Peter 3:15, ESV) you will sink to the level of your preparation. If you haven’t prepared you will not be able or at best struggle to share your reason. Schedule some time this week that you will write out your reason for the hope that is in you. Then reflect on it regularly.
