All hard work brings a profit, but mere talk leads only to poverty. Proverbs 14:23 (NIV)
Three or so weeks ago, people planned to do things differently this year than in years past. If you are one of those people or know someone who did, how are things going almost a month later? If statistics hold, then they (you) are about to give up on your new plan, or the plan was never started in the first place.
We need more than merely planning to reach our full potential. You must put into action the plans you have made. It is comfortable to make new plans to accomplish a goal. It feels like we are doing something. But until we put it into practice, everything has stayed the same.
Thinking and action are required to change capacity. Like New Year’s resolutions, you must stop doing only those things you have done before and start doing those things you could and should do.
To do it successfully and beat the New Year’s resolution odds, build on what you do well already. Become good at what you do by doing it often. As you become good, find other things you can do as well. Build off what you do great rather than doing something new that you will burn out on.Â
Building off what we do well is the essence of expanding your potential. It is the best way to model how to grow to those you disciple. Completely reinventing yourself isn’t genuine or honoring to God, who made you uniquely you. Reviewing where you have been successful and taking action will allow you to expand what you do well because you scaffold off of what you have established. This is how you get it done. Now go and outlive your limits!
