The Great Commission

“Go therefore and make disciples of all nations…” Jesus Christ

“And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.” Matthew 28:18-20 (ESV)

Why Did God give us the Great Commission? Does God really need us to make disciples? What ability do we truly have to change someone else? Or does Jesus give us “The Great Commission” for another reason?

I hold the conviction that Jesus entrusted us with the great commission, not out of a need for us to attract people to Him, or because others might not choose to follow Him based on our interactions. In many instances, Christians exhibit flaws to the extent that it seems miraculous for anyone to decide to follow Jesus. Even Gandhi expressed, "I'd be a Christian if it were not for the Christians."

So, why does Jesus call on us to go out and be His witnesses? I believe it is to infuse our lives with meaning and purpose. Despite our imperfections, engaging in sharing the good news about Jesus serves as motivation for personal growth and self-improvement. It propels us beyond our individual happiness, urging us to contribute value to others by first adding value to ourselves.

Go make disciples by outliving your limits!
