Influence: Management is not Leadership

“So take the talent from him and give it to him who has the ten talents. 29 For to everyone

who has will more be given, and he will have an abundance. But from the one who has not, even what he has will be taken away.” Matthew 25:28-29 ESV

Let's dive into the timeless wisdom of the parable of the talents, where three servants are entrusted with their master's wealth to nurture and grow. As we revisit this story, we witness the remarkable success of two servants who wisely invest and multiply their resources, while the third chooses to play it safe and merely returns what was given.

This parable beautifully mirrors the distinction between leadership and management. The first two servants exemplify authentic leadership by actively seeking avenues for growth, much like leaders who empower and uplift others, thereby multiplying their impact.

Conversely, the third servant adopts a managerial mindset, prioritizing risk aversion and maintaining the status quo. While managers focus on preventing losses and ensuring stability, they may miss out on opportunities for growth and expansion.

Upon the master's return, it's heartening to see how he rewards the proactive endeavors of the two servants who expanded their influence. Conversely, the servant who chose not to grow faces consequences. This is a powerful reminder that effective leadership entails enriching others' lives, thus magnifying one's influence.

Let's embrace the lesson of the parable and strive to be leaders who uplift and empower others, foster growth, and multiply our impact on the world around us.

Go, outlive your limits!
